I wrote this last Sunday, having said goodbye to my husband who went off to the USA on a business trip. Hope you like it. Rhyming scheme - ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG - with 10 syllables per line except for the stand alone verses which have 8.
I hate that white Mercedes Benz ©Dana Allen
He’s off again to work in my homeland Collected by a white Mercedes Benz He’s not with me, the family nor his friends 4 weeks’ too long, more than we both had planned I hate that white Mercedes Benz He’s gone to make a living selling books A blue white plane zooms off with him inside For forty years my man’s worked hard with pride I tolerate it ‘cause of his good looks I hate that blue white aeroplane When he is gone, I’ve much to do, I’ll be Busy, my work, a class, running around To see my friends, I pray to hear the sound Of his sweet voice, Plane, bring him back to me I love that blue white aeroplane He’s called, got bag, through immigration line The white Mercedes is waiting outside He’ll be home, soon, so tired and bleary-eyed He’s my home, soon my tired heart will be fine I love that white Mercedes Benz
Thank you to
and for your help with this. Y’all are rock stars!
Dana, as noted in yesterday's Write Hearted "Ideas Gym," I'm not really a poetry person.
Well, thanks to your inventive, clever work here, I'm starting to realize that I may be wrong in that limited assessment.
On that note, I'll keep your work in mind when the Write Hearted Poetry Workshop reminder pops up. Better yet, I've bookmarked the day: July 31.
By the way, have you ever thought of voiceover work? I heard the recording, and you have the pipes for that.
Love it!
